Psychedelic Professionals Meetup Groups are in Boulder, Denver, Fort Collins, and Pikes Peak Region! Let's keep Colorado on the leading edge of psychedelic medicine work by coming together in community to learn, share, and grow. Each Psychedelic Professionals Meetup Group starts with an informative topic relevant to research, practice, policy, or activism around psychedelic medicines, followed by open discussion and an opportunity to connect with like-minded others.
Somatic Psychotherapy and Psychedelics: A Potent Combination for Trauma Processing
Body-centered psychotherapy techniques have been used for decades with clients suffering from trauma, but only in the last few years have they been combined with psychedelics. We will present a model developed at Innate Path, a psychotherapy clinic that specializes in using ketamine and cannabis (legally) with clients. We will review the somatic model we use, the benefits of these particular medicines and how they support the somatic work, and the resulting increased pace of therapy. We will also address various myths of psychedelic therapy and the ways they can create unrealistic expectations in clients seeking this work.
Aviva Bannerman, LPC
Aviva is a licensed psychotherapist in Boulder, CO, where she has a private practice that offers body-centered talk therapy, ketamine- and cannabis-assisted psychotherapy, and business consultation for new therapists. She graduated from Naropa University in 2017 with a Master’s Degree in Somatic Counseling Psychology and currently works as an instructor with Innate Path, offering psychedelic therapy training to practitioners. She has completed the MDMA Therapy Training Program with MAPS and plans to delve into this work upon legalization. Aviva has worked with a wide variety of clientele, including low-income adults, homeless women, teen girls, and high-trauma populations.
Andres Zambrano, LPC
Andrés graduated from Naropa University with a Master’s Degree in Contemplative Psychotherapy. Andrés’ holistic approach to healing is heavily influenced by the training he did in shamanic traditions of South, Central, and North America. He completed his yoga teacher training in India, studied massage therapy in Thailand, and has spent years practicing Chinese martial arts. Andrés spent three years working as a wilderness field guide in a wilderness therapy program with an emphasis on addiction. He now has a private practice in Boulder, CO, offering ketamine- and cannabis-assisted psychotherapy, and he is an instructor with Innate Path, where he offers psychedelic therapy training.
